As the new rate period for Fall 2023 approaches, the Portsmouth Energy Advisory Committee has received the following rate-setting schedule from the Community Power Coalition of NH (CPCNH) which is the agent for Portsmouth Community Power (PCP). The new rates will be in effect from August 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024.

Residents and businesses currently enrolled in the PCP default product, ‘Granite Basic,’ have a rate of 15.8 cents per kilowatt hour, compared to the current Eversource rate of 20.2 cents which will be in place now through July 31, 2023. Residents and businesses who opted-up to greener rate options also keep their rate through July 31.

By June 30, PCP will again select the products available to Portsmouth participants. These products start with the Granite Basic option. Customers can select “greener” electricity generated from varying proportions of renewables, up to 100% renewable energy. Residents and businesses can “opt-up” to greener electricity at any time.

The CPCNH Finance and Risk Management Committee meets at 1 pm on Tuesday, June 27 to review the draft proposal for Fall 2023 rates. On June 30, the CPCNH Board of Directors meets in Concord (14 Dixon Avenue Suite 201) to deliberate the rate recommendation and approve rates for the fall period. Go to virtual access for CPCNH meeting.

By no later than July 2, CPCNH will post the rates for August 1, 2023, through January 31, 2024, publicly to CommunityPowerNH.gov and to the NH Department of Energy comparison shopping page

Portsmouth Community Power customers will see the new rates go into effect for the meter read cycle that starts in August and see the new rates on the bills received in September and into October. As an example, if a customer has a meter read cycle that begins August 15, the new rates will not be used for energy consumed prior to August 15. Residents and businesses do not have to take any action to remain on their current rate product. Customers may elect to change their rate product, opt-out, or opt-in from a third-party supplier to Portsmouth Community Power at any time.
