Several months of planning took flight during the weekend of Sept. 10, as thousands of spectators flocked to the first air show in almost a decade at the Pease Air National Guard Base, according to WMUR9.
The air show, dubbed "Thunder Over New Hampshire," drew about 40,000 people daily throughout the weekend. Spectators witnessed the high-speed flying and thrilling acrobatics of the U.S. Air Force’s demonstration squad, nicknamed the Thunderbirds.
“If you know anything about aviation, you know this is hard. Air show at Pease Air Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire,” attendee Christopher Martin said in a Tweet on Sept. 10, which included video footage from the show.
Luckily the weather held up throughout the weekend. The clear sky gave onlookers great views of some of the latest military technology, such as the F-22 Raptor.
The base has been planning and preparing for the free show since May 2021, according to show director Maj. Shannon Van Splunder.
"We couldn’t ask for a better day, better weather, better turnout, better crowd. It’s been awesome,” he told WMUR9.
