COVID-19 cases are currently surging in New Hampshire.
“New cases of COVID-19 are rising fast in New Hampshire, showing exponential growth that makes August 2021 feel like October 2020,” New Hampshire Rep. David Meuse (D-Portsmouth) tweeted Aug. 16.
Cases recently reached their highest level since May, WMUR9 reported.
As of Aug. 16, there were 1,704 active cases of COVID-19 in New Hampshire, which was the highest since May 8.
On Aug. 27, the number of active cases had risen to 2,798. The seven-day average had risen to 303, a 26% increase over the previous seven-day average, according to New Hampshire's COVID-19 dashboard.
About 54% of the state’s eligible residents had been fully vaccinated by Aug. 27 and 59% had received at least one dose. There are 125 people hospitalized with COVID-19, and total deaths so far in the pandemic have reached 1,415.
State health officials want to double the amount of money they are spending on marketing the COVID-19 vaccines, the Associated Press reported.
The governor's executive council will be asked to approve an extra $844,000 to a Manchester marketing agency for public service announcements on the importance of vaccination, AP said. The agency has already received a $434,000 contract, the story said.
