The new executive director of the New Hampshire Democratic party hails from another state that plays an early role in the presidential contests every four years.

He is former Iowa Democratic chair Troy Price. “Hello, New Hampshire,” Price Tweeted Aug. 15.

One of biggest challenges facing Price and the Democrats is helping to hold the Senate seat of first-term Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan in 2022, CNN reported. The outcome of that election could help decide whether Democrats keep control of the Senate, which is currently split 50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris as a tiebreaker.

Price resigned from his job in Iowa after chaotic presidential caucuses that delayed results in the nation’s first presidential contest of 2020, CNN reported.

"As chair of this party, I am deeply sorry for what happened and bear the responsibility for any failures on behalf of the Iowa Democratic Party," Price said in his letter of resignation, according to CNN.

The decision to hire Price demonstrates the party’s commitment to winning next year and preserving New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary status for 2024, the party’s chair, Raymond Buckley, told WMUR9.

Price is a top-notch organizer who produced successful results in Iowa, Buckley said. “New Hampshire Democrats are building an all-star team of experienced  leaders to ensure that we organize and mobilize voters in every corner of the state,” he told WMUR9.

The controversy over the 2020 Iowa caucus did not come up during Price’s interview for the New Hampshire job, according to Buckley.
