Newington Police Department Looking for your Assistance with Accreditation

Np

Newington Police Department issued the following announcement on July 14.

The police department is looking for your assistance in helping us over the last hurdle for national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Less than 5% of law enforcement agencies in the United States are accredited through CALEA and only a handful in the state of NH. Within the last three years, we have been working hard updating our policies and procedures following best law enforcement practices, being more transparent and holding ourselves accountable for our actions. It has been hard this past year to fulfill our obligations with community programs due to Covid but will be starting up again soon.  Your officers take pride in the work they do for the Newington Community and this is an opportunity for you to voice your support for the police department. If you have any questions regarding the below process, please do not hesitate to contact me at 431-5461 or email me at mbilodeau@newingtonnhpd.com or Captain Smart at bsmart@newingtonnhpd.com. Thank you for your continued support!!

The Newington Police Department is scheduled for a virtual on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

A Team of assessors representing the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will confirm the Newington Police Department’s ability to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services. The team will consist of Dr. Michael Webb who serves as Senior Core Faculty Member at Capella University’s School of Public Service Leadership and Chief Thomas Grimaldi of the Port Orange, Florida Police Department.

As part of the virtual on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, July 19th, between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm at the Newington Town Hall or by appointment. The session will be conducted via Zoom. Zoom meeting information is available upon request from the police department. Agency personnel and members of the general public are also invited to offer comments at a public information session on Tuesday, July 20th, between the hours of 9:30 am and 11:30 am by calling 603-817-4269. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Any person wishing to submit written comments about the Newington Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.
