Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jun. 15.
The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2021 Academic Scholarships Recipients. Each year the Chamber’s Scholarship Committee awards three Scholarships, based on Academic Achievement, Community Activity, and an Essay Submission, to students affiliated with area businesses that are part of the Chamber of Commerce. This Year’s Scholarship winners are: Xiara Glickel, Alexis Widgen, and Amy Murphy of Salem. Xiara Glickel, as the highest scoring high school student, was recognized with the Ray Landry Memorial Scholarship. Alexis Widgen was awarded the Linda Michalczyk Scholarship, as a student pursuing a degree at a two-year technical college.
XIARA GLICKEL
Xiara attended Salem High School and graduated with the class of 2021. She has been awarded High Honors all semesters of her high school career. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Treasurer of the Key Club. Xiara was a founding member of SHS’s Women's Empowerment. She is a nationally ranked indoor archer through the USA Archery JOAD Program. Xiara has ranked in the top 3 in both state and regional competitions from 2017-2020 and top 10 nationally in her class. Xiara will be attending Emerson College in the fall where she has been accepted into the Honors Program.
AMY MURPHY
Amy Murphy, a 2021 graduate at Salem High School, will be attending the University of Tampa and plans to major in Business. When she is not playing field hockey or lacrosse, she works as an office assistant at Industrial Protection Products (IPP) in Salem NH. Amy has had a steady 4.0 GPA and has been recognized numerous times for Academic Excellence. Her favorite class is TV and Media, and she plans to pursue a career in this field. She is the youngest of four and loves to travel.
ALEXIS WIDGREN
Alexis Widgren graduated from Salem High School and was enrolled in the Health and Science Technology program. She interested in pursuing a career as a Radiologist Technician. Her hobbies include paddle boarding, kayaking, baking, and spending time with family and friends.
