Democratic State Senator Tom Sherman has won his re-election bid for Senate District 24, defeating Republican challenger Louis Gargiulo.

The incumbent expressed gratitude in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Nov. 4.

“I’m honored to have been voted by the people of the Seacoast to serve another term as their State Senator. We face challenges ahead but I am confident that we will get through them as we always have, together.”

Meanwhile, Gargiulo conceded and thanked his team in a lengthy Facebook post that states in part:

“To the Seacoast Community: I’d like to thank all of you who came out at a record breaking level to cast votes in such an important election. I’d also like to congratulate Senator Tom Sherman on his success in the District 24 race and thank him for a spirited and respectable campaign. What we all participated in and experienced is the heart and purpose of democracy and I am proud to have both witnessed and been a part of it...”
