DOVER—Two departments focused on pre-surgery admission and preparation have come together to form the Center for Surgical Optimization and Pre-Operative Services at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Patients having surgery will work closely with the newly branded department to navigate their way through the process and prepare for their day in the operating room.
“The merging of Pre-Admissions and the Surgical Optimization Center at Wentworth-Douglass ensures that patients are well prepared for their surgery and we as the surgical team are prepared to meet the needs of our patients,” said Nurse Practitioner Amy Dumont, DNP, FNP-BC. “With a thoughtful history and physical we can assess and often mitigate the risks involved with surgery and anesthesia to our patients.”
The merger of the departments started two years ago but moving forward under the name of the Center for Surgical Optimization and Pre-Operative Services, gives the department an identity and patients more clarity.
The goal of the Center for Surgical Optimization and Pre-Operative Services is to make sure that patients feel prepared and all steps are taken prior to surgery to give the patient the best and safest outcome.
“We are often the patient’s first point of contact with the hospital. Anxious patients and families are met with the voice and face of seasoned nurses and providers who are invested in patient and family-centered care,” Dumont said. “We are in constant communication with countless numbers of health care providers, departments, and other health care facilities to be able to collect and construct the most accurate patient history. This effort has a direct impact our patient’s overall experience from safety, to outcome, to satisfaction.”
