PORTSMOUTH – New Hampshire Art Association artist Barbara Morse will have her artwork on display in an exhibit titled, “Life Re-imagined,’ at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery during May.

Morse has developed her own style of drawing with graphite that she calls “In Sharp Focus.” Indeed, those viewing her work could easily get lost in examining all the details she puts into her pieces.

“I create the art, but … the viewer crafts their own story,” Morse said.

A Connecticut native, receiving her formal art training at The Paire College of Art in New Haven, Morse is now a long-time resident of New Hampshire residing in Amherst.

Beginning her career as an illustrator, she had a vision that her drawings could be more dynamic when created as works of fine art; and she could pursue her passion of working primarily in graphite, while developing a style, she considered unique and challenging.

With time, the work has become more refined adding hints of color in acrylics to bring attention to a portion that enhances the entire image.

As her work became established, she was extended membership in the Salmagundi Club in NYC, the New Hampshire Art Association, and the Copley Society in Boston where she has achieved the level of Copley Artist.

“Working in graphite and sometimes adding a hint of color to attract attention to an area enhancing the entire image, no matter the level of labor intensity, I find joy and satisfaction watching a piece come to life before me,” Morse said.

“My reward, though, is not having the viewer see the work through my eyes, but their own – creating a personal and long-lasting image to be timelessly viewed and shared,” she added.

“As an artist, this is what I challenge myself with on every new piece of work. My perception is incidental, for what…the viewer has re-imagined is the essence of the work.”

Morse recently had a piece juried into the NHAA’s prestigious 36th annual Omer T. Lassonde show that was shown at the NHAA’s Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery during April. She is also the featured artist at the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center through June 17 with an exhibit titled, “Around Town.”

Morse has pieces being accepted throughout the year for shows at various galleries throughout the state. For a full list of her upcoming shows, please visit her website at www.barbaramorseart.com
