PORTSMOUTH—Where roads, rails, and rivers converge lies Portsmouth.
Logs, granite, salt, beer, silver, shoes, cod and more flowed through this gateway city out to the world. Over centuries,Captains of Industry built stately manors and gardens for their Lovely Ladies decked out in big feathered hats and hoop skirts.
This year’s Pocket Garden Tour of Portsmouth ferries you from 1758 to 2017. Gardens range from traditional and classic layouts, eclectic gardens shaped by professionals, and a new native plants garden assembled by amateurs with friends. All in the shady Goodwin Park area, an easy mile walk with lots to see.
The 33rd PGT runs Friday, June 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. $20 in advance, $25 day of. Search “Pocket Garden Tour South Church 03801” for more information, or click here. Tickets will go on sale in May.
