PORTSMOUTH—From the Vine to Wine, the Seacoast’s only wine education and experience school, is launching an 8-week wine certification class starting on March 15, 2022, in Portsmouth. This is the first wine knowledge and appreciation course offered in the Portsmouth area. From the Vine to Wine is a satellite of the prestigious Commonwealth Wine School of Cambridge, Mass.
This course is for anyone who:
• Works in wine or who wants a career in the industry
• Has a serious interest in deepening their wine knowledge
• Wishes to become a more confident wine taster
This certification class is offered by the London based Wine and Spirits Education Trust, which provides globally recognized education and qualifications in wines, spirits and sake, for professionals and enthusiasts.
“I am so thrilled to be able to lead this educational experience to wine lovers in NH and Maine,’ said owner and educator Anne Richter Arnold. “So many people on the Seacoast enjoy wine, but have not had the opportunity to really roll up their sleeves and learn more about it until now. The Wine and Spirits Education Trust certifications are world renowned and well respected, and it is an honor to teach their excellent programs.”
This course is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines. Participants gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, the course explores the factors that impact style and quality and teaches how to describe these wines with confidence.
"Behind the Label" Level 2 gives participants the tools to expand their wine experience and gain in depth knowledge about wines around the world. In each two-hour class, students will review different wine regions, styles and varieties and have the opportunity to taste and learn the WSET Strategic Approach to Tasting (SAT) that professionals use in their wine tastings. With firsthand, in person training, the manual, workbook, and access to online resources and recorded classes, students will be well prepared for your certification exam and a broader experience in wine.
Tastings are provided as part of the in-person class. All students are given access to our online learning platform which includes recordings of lectures, quizzes, and study tips.
Cost: $850
Price includes all study materials, class wines, in-person examination (one attempt), and WSET registration fees.
