City of Portsmouth issued the following announcement on January 31.
The City has "left the lights on" the holiday tree in Market Square, and with another holiday coming up on February 14, is inviting residents to help decorate the "Tree of Love."
From school children to seniors, the Portsmouth Recreation Department welcomes all who would like to participate. For a template with the heart design, to download and decorate, click here. Then drop your decorated Valentine heart at the Portsmouth Senior Activity Center at 125 Cottage Street by Thursday, February 10. (Dropbox is located under the canopy at the entrance.) The staff will laminate the hearts, add hanging strings and the DPW will use the hearts to decorate the holiday tree. Hearts may also be left at the City Hall reception desk in the main lobby.
The decorating should be complete by Monday, February 14 at noon. The Recreation Department invites everyone to spend some time on the Valentine's Day Weekend with a walk downtown to admire the tree.
