With blood supplies in New Hampshire hovering at a 10-year low, Gov. Chris Sununu (R) is encouraging the state’s residents to help others by donating blood.
“The Red Cross is in need of blood donations,” the governor tweeted Dec. 28. “Just a few minutes out of your day can have a lifesaving impact -- one I saw firsthand this summer. Do your part and donate today by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visiting RedCrossBlood.org.”
Sununu promoted the cause by emphasizing how grateful he was that blood was available when he needed multiple blood transfusions to treat a bleeding ulcer in September.

“When they turned to me and said that they had to start blood transfusions immediately, that hits home real fast and real hard," Sununu said, according to WMUR9. "(That’s) nothing that you ever expect to hear, but when you need it, you really do need it. And I think I had four transfusions ultimately just to stabilize me, and I was very blessed and very thankful for every one of those individuals who donated every bit of that blood. I will never know their names. I don't know where they are, but they saved my life."
Those interested in donating blood can make an appointment by visiting the Red Cross's website, calling their toll-free number or downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
