PORTSMOUTH – The paintings of New Hampshire Art Association artist Debra Grubbs will be on view during an exhibit titled, “Waveism,” during the month of November at the Association’s Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery.
Grubbs of Salem, New Hampshire, describes “Waveism” as the abstract lines formed by flood waters on the sides of the slot canyons near the Grand Canyon as the inspiration for these works of art.
“Taking the photos of the slot canyons, while my family and I were exploring them, served as my inspiration,” she said. “The end result is what the term ‘Waveism’ is all about.”
Grubbs began painting in watercolors while studying with watercolor artist Corey Staid in Andover, Mass. as a teenager. She studied with a variety of other artists after moving to California.
While attending Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif., Grubbs received a more structured, formal training, eventually receiving a degree in fine arts, emphasis in painting, and has been a member of the NH Art Association for a number of years. These “Waveism” works are painted in acrylic.
Visitors to the gallery are currently being asked to wear a mask due to the prevalence of COVID-19. However, if visitors are more comfortable setting up a time to view the exhibit by appointment outside of gallery hours, they can call (603) 431-4230.
