RAYMOND—On a beautiful Saturday morning in September, Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity (SENH Habitat) proudly joined forces with Veterans Count, a program of Easterseals and Team Rubicon to assist a N.H. Veteran in need of various repairs to the exterior of his home.

After living for years with an unsecure walkway, deck and hand railings, Daniel reached out to SENH Habitat to see if they could assist him with these critical repairs after suffering the terrible loss of his 5-year-old service dog who slipped and fell off the dilapidated ramp.

SENH Habitat is excited to have partnered with Veterans Count for this project and feel blessed with the opportunity to assist Daniel with his much-needed home repairs. Our teams worked diligently until dusk building a new deck, ramp and hand railings. Daniel now has safe access and egress from his home on Powers Street.

Daniel was active in the United States Army from 1987-1992 and is proud to have been a Squad Leader in the 82nd Airborne brigade. Unfortunately, Daniel has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other issues from his time in the service and it took a lot for him to ask for help. He courageously led his unit in Iraq while fighting in Desert Storm and everyone is hopeful for his future.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity work alongside of Veterans Count and Team Rubicon to help make a difference in the lives of those who served our country,” shared SENH Habitat’s Executive Director, Marcie Bergan. “It’s been amazing to witness the generosity and support shown by the local Veteran population, businesses and all who came out to help repair Daniel’s outdoor space.”

Easterseals Military & Veterans Services, in partnership with Veterans Count, responds rapidly, efficiently and effectively to the unmet needs of veterans, service members and their families to ensure that they can thrive in their communities. Veterans Count developed a one-of-a-kind Care Coordination program that provides, free, and confidential support designed to meet the unique needs of Veterans, Military Members and their families.

Through our strategic planning we are hopeful to help an even larger number of people/Veterans through projects such as this. We are currently building a single family home in Middleton alongside the Pires Family with a completion date scheduled for March, 2022.

The mission of SENH Habitat is to eliminate poverty housing in Southeast NH. To volunteer, donate or learn more about SENH Habitat for Humanity, please visit www.senhhabitat.org or call (603) 433-9555.
