On the back of another strong defensive performance by the New Hampshire Wildcats football team, a victory on Saturday brought the season record to a scorching 3-0 start against the Lafayette Leopards, according to the Official Website of the UNH Wildcats.

The No. 23-ranked Wildcats defeated Lafayette by a score of 19-13 in Fisher Stadium on Saturday, with the highlight being the performance of the defense and a strong connection between sophomore quarterback Bret Edwards and junior receiver Brian Espanet that resulted in a pair of touchdowns.

UNH scored a touchdown roughly 17 seconds into the fourth quarter and limited Lafayette to a total of 233 yards of total offense, with 41 coming on the ground, according to Lafayette's website.

A 3-0 start has Wildcats fans extremely optimistic for the remainder of the season, while the Lafayette Leopards dropped to 0-3.

The Wildcats are now looking ahead to their upcoming matchup with the Pittsburgh Panthers, which will be played on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh figures to be a tough matchup, having won their first two games over UMass Minutemen and Tennessee Volunteers before losing at home to Western Michigan Broncos by a slim margin.

The Wildcats will be banking on their defense to keep Pittsburgh in check. In the game against Lafayette, the UNH defense held the Leopards to just two field goals, with a touchdown coming in the opening kickoff.

After the Pittsburgh matchup, UNH will return to Wildcats Stadium for their annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 2, for a matchup with James Madison University.
