Joe Sweeney, a political commentator and public figure from New Hampshire, posted on his Twitter account a series of statements addressing law enforcement issues and drug trafficking in late September 2025.
On September 24, 2025, Sweeney commented on the risks faced by ICE officers, writing: “It’s almost like dangerous, deranged statements from elected officials attacking and besmirching our brave ICE Officers the last 9 years has resulted in violent acts targeting them. Who could have seen this coming?”
The following day, Sweeney highlighted a recent drug seizure by local authorities. On September 25, he stated: ” Salem Police and the DEA just took 250 grams of fentanyl off our streets. That is more than 100,000 potential lethal doses of poison. Enough to wipe out the entire population of Salem several times over. This is why we must stay tough on the drug cartels and traffickers”. He also provided a link for further information in a subsequent tweet: “Link: https://t.co/ECyJBIe0SR”.
Fentanyl remains one of the most potent synthetic opioids contributing to overdose deaths across the United States. Local police departments often work in partnership with federal agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to combat trafficking and distribution efforts in communities nationwide.
Over recent years, there has been an increase in public debate regarding rhetoric directed at immigration enforcement officers. Some experts suggest that negative portrayals or criticisms may contribute to heightened tensions or even targeted violence against law enforcement personnel.
