PORTSMOUTH–Interest in the 101 Objects Project as one of the legacies of the Portsmouth NH 400 continues to grow, thanks to sales of the book A History of Portsmouth NH in 101 Objects and the monthly speaker series (through April) at the Portsmouth Public Library.
Now fans can follow the newly-created 101 Objects Trail with the just-published 101 Objects Trail Map. Print copies of the free map are available now at the Portsmouth Public Library, the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth Visitors Center (open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and RiverRun Bookstore. Additional locations will have free copies available as key visitor information and historic sites open for the season. The Portsmouth Historical Society (10 Middle St.) will also have copies when they open the “A Sense of Place” exhibition on April 1 that also complements the 101 Objects Project.
The map is designed to pinpoint the physical locations of objects in the book that the public can visit. Some locations house multiple locations and due to space constraints not all objects in those spaces are identified with an image on the print map. But all of the objects on public display are identified and describes on the interactive version on the project website at 101ObjectsPortsmouthNH.org/map. The QR code on the print map links to that Google Map to make it easy to find the address and directions while “on the Trail.”
The 224-page full color book features 101 objects crowd-sourced by Portsmouth residents as important to the history of the city matched with essays by 80 different experts on the stories of the objects. Books are available for purchase at RiverRun Bookstore (32 Daniel St. and RiverRunBookstore.com) and at PortsmouthNH400.org.
